Flashing V1 Firmware

Introduction

New firmware containing bug fixes and performance improvements is periodically released for the radar sample. Here, we detail how to flash the radar with the new firmware.

Flashing Firmware

Requirements & Set-Up

We assume that you have followed the instructions for setting up the radar demo as in this guide: V1 Evaluation Kit Demo Set-up.

You should have the V1 sample powered up and connected to your machine running Ubuntu 20.04 (in the set-up guide, this corresponds to having completed the “Configure Network” step). You should also have the new sensor firmware (.img.gz file) downloaded in a convenient local directory.

Note: you can also flash the sensor using a non-Ubuntu machine (such as Windows) as long as you have properly configured the network settings and can access the integrated web server.

Flashing the Radar

Open a web browser (Firefox) and navigate to the following address:

192.168.3.10

This will open the web server embedded in the V1 sample. This portal makes configuring sensor parameters and flashing the new firmware convenient. It should look like the following:

Within the portal, click “Upgrade” on the header at the top.

Select the file containing the firmware you want to flash. Then, click on “Submit.”

The new firmware image will be uploaded to the radar, and the installation process will proceed. Do not unplug your radar or reload the page during the firmware installation process.

After a few moments, the new firmware will be installed. We recommend restarting the radar (by removing and re-connecting the cable harness).

You will have to re-enter your configuration parameters following a firmware upgrade. For more information, see the “Configure Radar” section of the set-up guide: V1 Evaluation Kit Demo Set-up.
